Creating a future where all family pets have access to the veterinary care they need.

Pets are family — yet millions lack veterinary care.

Across the country, at least 50 million beloved pets live with families who don't have access to affordable veterinary care. These pets and their families fall into what’s known as the “access to veterinary care gap,” where the cost of care and other barriers keep millions of pets from getting the medical care they need throughout their lives.

This isn’t a small gap — it’s a crisis.

As the number of American households experiencing financial hardship grows, the divide between those who can access veterinary care for their pet family members and those who can’t grows wider. Today, almost every community across the country includes pet families without access to veterinary care they can afford. In rural and low-income communities, the challenges are even greater.

Compare this to human healthcare, where there is a safety net of government programs, nonprofits, and

community-based services to ensure more people get the healthcare they need, regardless of their financial situation. In communities across the country, a number of nonprofit organizations are working to create a similar safety net for family pets. Their work is making a huge difference but has only just begun; our country’s safety net for pets is still underdeveloped, leaving millions of pets without the care they need.

We intend to change that by making a historic $250 million investment to build a stronger, more accessible system of veterinary care by championing and investing in nonprofit veterinary services, increasing support for rural communities, and fueling innovative research and programs that break down barriers to access.  In other words, we’re making a Big Bet for Pets — because every pet deserves a healthy life, and every family deserves the chance to provide for them.
